Students have been investigating how hysteria and beliefs can lead to terrible consequences. They have been reading The Crucible by Arthur Miller and considering how Puritan principles and belief in Witchcraft led to the tragic hanging of 19 people. Students have constructed character analyses and partaken in a ‘hot seating’ activity. In this, some students took on the roles of important character in the play and had to answer questions, generated by their classmates, in character. We have also been drawing parallels with the events of the McCarthy witch hunts in the USA during the 1950s. To complete their investigation, students will watch the movie of the play and then choose a scene to re-write and act out.
