Next week the Grade 9 class will finish our interdisciplinary unit on historical genocides and the ongoing mass persecution of people around the world.  They are currently working on a summative project that asks them to advocate for the rights of persecuted groups.  This can be a historical example that sheds light on the need to prevent such acts of violence in the future or a contemporary example that highlights the continued existence of mass persecution in our world today.  From an I&S perspective, this unit has largely focused on the question “what is our collective responsibility as a society to end and/or prevent the persecution of people based on group or cultural identity?”  I look forward to seeing what the students will have to say on this and other important questions.  All summative task guidelines and assessment criteria can be found on Google Classroom.
