In English students have been studying the conventions of speeches.  They have analyzed the features that make a good speech and applied this to many examples, including that of Malala to the UN.   They have also investigated factors that lead to unsuccessful speeches and have discussed the role of humor.   They will complete their final summative task – writing and perform sing speeches on a subject of their choice – after the winter break.

In Individuals and Societies students have worked in groups to investigate different civilizations from around the world.  They have been asked to consider whether or not a civilization can be described as great.  At the moment they are completing essays on this theme.

I hope that everyone has an enjoyable, safe and relaxing winter break.
