Students in Grade 8 have been working hard to design containers that will store and protect something personally meaningful. Our unit statement of inquiry states that “artists explore the relationship between an object’s purpose and aesthetic appearance.” In other words, there is a connection between form and function.

Now that the treasure boxes have been constructed using high-fire and low-fire clays, the final step will be to apply glazes in the chosen colors. While waiting for the kiln firings to take place, students are reflecting on the bigger unit questions and practicing their subject-specific knowledge and vocabulary for Arts criteria A and D.
