This week we celebrated “World Read Aloud Day”. In the primary library classes, we read aloud the amazing book “The Lion Inside” by Rachel Bright and Jim Field. Not only is this book super fun to read as it rhymes and has fun characters, but it also has a wonderful message. Everyone has a “lion” and a “mouse” inside of them, and everyone can feel brave sometimes and scared at other times. The book sparked wonderful conversations at every grade level about bravery and using one’s voice.
As well we continued with our Digital Citizenship Unit. Grade 2 talked about what information should be kept private and not shared on the internet. Grade 3 discussed the power of words and what to do when someone uses mean or hateful language on the internet. Grade 4 looked at how to be an upstander instead of a bystander if cyberbullying happens. Grade 5 looked at what cyberbullying is and some ways to stop it. Grade 6 discussed the different ways it is possible to present one’s self online and the benefits and drawbacks associated.
