Grade 10 have started to consider how poetry can be used as a lens through which the writer observes his or her own world. This week the students were asked to consider how poets’ countries of origin inspired poetry. Each student was asked to find a poem written in and about their home country. They then created a presentation which explained how the author was influenced by the country around them and through this, how they viewed their country. The poems discussed ranged from the patriotic, to dark humor and a cry for social change.
