The Personal Project (PP) is a unique way all IB students can accomplish something they think is important, valuable, and challenging. Along with meeting Sevice as Action Goals, it is part of a pair of requirements all students must complete in order to receive the IB Middle Years Programme Completion Certificate. We have been supporting grade 9 students all year to help them find success with their PPs. Next year they will present their products in an exhibition and submit a report for grading.

During the third quarter this year at ABIS we assigned weekly work to students to help prepare them for completing their personal project. Each week we asked students to complete and show us the following pieces of work:

  • Choosing a product and a Global Context to help them think about their goals in the project

  • Research into their topics, creating their product, or other critical details

  • Analyzing sources for good value

  • Deciding on how students can evaluate and judge the quality of their work

  • How to plan and manage their own work to ensure the meeting of goals

At this point work done should be independently and planned by each student according to their needs. We continue to check Managebac to make sure students are recording weekly journal entries that describe the progress they make. Mrs. Rehil (the ABIS Personal Project Coordinator) and I are still here to help them if they need it.

Since we did so much work between January and April, students can now focus on being done by these dates that are for next school year. Anyone who did not complete all the PP assignments should finish them now. Here are the due dates for the Personal Project.

All of the due dates are for next year except for the draft part A and B report on 28 May. Students who turn this in to Managebac for their supervisor to read and give feedback will not receive a grade but will receive important feedback to help them improve their reports. This will help them receive their best possible grade on the Personal Project. For anyone who does not turn in the draft for feedback in May, we will ask them to turn it end by the end of week 1 of next school year.

We remain here to help all the students so stay in touch with us as you work to complete your product and meet your goals. I will continue to hold weekly video meetings that students can check into if they have any questions.
