For the Higher Level IB Diploma in French, students read at least two works of literature in addition to other course requirements. Apart from the joy of reading a great work, this allows students to look through a French speaker’s perspective at vital questions and so generate interesting debate. Our current, very hardworking HL students have read two works so far this year, a look at a dilemma of modern life in Cameroun and one which asks deep questions about life, death and faith. We are currently revising these works for mock exams, when students will receive an extract from anywhere in these works, place it in context and lead the discussion wherever they wish to take it. What an amazing skill to be able to do that, girls! I am proud of your hard work getting there. In the book “Oscar et la Dame Rose”, a young boy comes to understand the gift of life and explores its meaning in a way that touches all who read this work.
