Model United Nations students prepared diligently as delegates for the The Hague International Model United Nations Conference (THIMUN) held in Doha, Qatar last week, 22-25 January, 2019. Over 1,500 students convened from all over the world to discuss, debate, and find solutions to some of the world’s major issues.
The theme of this conference was based on the U.N. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. Students discussed issues ranging from measures to address illegal human trafficking, how to solve the situation in Yemen, and safeguarding sustainable fishing stocks globally.
What an amazing learning experience this was for the students who participated in the conference. World issues; Public speaking; Writing; Collaboration with students from around the world; debating; lobbying; being on-time; dressing and behaving professionally… just to name a few.
The ABIS delegation received positive feedback from the head of THIMUN, Ms. Fatima El Mahdi, who stated, “thank you for training such well prepared and motivated students! It was a pleasure to see their ideas in committee- the Netherlands delegation spoke up often and well, and as we crunch the numbers from the speaker sheets, I am pleased to see their confidence growing!”
We look forward to doing many more MUN conferences in the future. Watch for more to come about this up-and-coming MUN program happening at ABIS.
