This morning 17 ABIS students entered the Oman Sail classroom and started lessons. Students were feeling nervous about controlling a sail boat on their own. The instructors were very supportive and patient. By 4pm this afternoon many of the students were sailing figure eights around the harbor! They realize they still have a few more skills to master, but many are feeling proud of all they accomplished today.

We made sailing groups before we left:

The Flaming Rubber Duckies

The African Blob Fish

The Sea Soles

The Killer Whales

Our groups ended up getting all mixed up, but they liked posing for the photos!

Serious sailing students! Mr Barakat also took lessons.

Some time was spent in the classroom and then they had some dry land instruction on the boats…

Then they hit the water!

A very successful day indeed! Tomorrow they are back at it, learning how to deal with a capsized boat and more sailing practice. They came a long way today and I look forward to seeing what they can accomplish tomorrow!

Until tomorrow,

Ms. Sarah
