Along with preparing for the upcoming exams, g7 and g8 math students have been learning how to form linear equations and how to graph these equations using a great online tool Desmos Marbleslides (see photos). Creativity combined with mathematical knowledge are key thinking attributes needed in this activity. Students design linear equations that are then graphed and used to carry marbles through their coordinate grids to collect the stars found on the coordinate grid. This is a great way of learning how the slope and locations of lines can be manipulated on a coordinate grid. Visit demos.com to find out more about the many online tools they offer for math students, including Marbleslides. These can be “played” for free on the iPad, anywhere there is an internet connection. And it’s a truly fun way to learn math!
