Grade 12 completed the SL section of the IB DP Physics course this week, with our HL Physicists getting close to the finish line as well. The pictures below show the group putting together a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram (which is more fascinating than it sounds) based on data of a number of stars. This diagram is a fantastic tool that allows for a large number of conclusions to be drawn and connections to be spotted.
The Grade 11 students spent a little time this week preparing to write their first practice IA (the practical component of their course) based on data gathered last week. What might look like an attempted sword-fight with rulers in the pictures below is the students gathering data on the height and timings of orbit of Berta, the flying cow. They will use this to accurately (or quite possibly inaccurately) calculate g, the gravitational field strength.
