Another successful night of sleep. After a meal of burgers, pizza and fries, we dragged ourselves back to camp, brushed our teeth and hit the hay.
Everyone was awake by 6:30 this morning, and the group made breakfast, hot chocolate, cereal, and scrambled eggs in arabic bread. After getting the campsite cleaned up, we headed to the Oman Sail classroom for this morning’s training. Right now, they are reviewing their progress from yesterday, and pretty soon they’ll be learning how to tie knots, before heading out to the boats to practice getting them into and out of the water. Then comes the moment some of us are dreading, the notorious capsizing drill.
After lunch, well that is kind of up in the air, quite literally.
All week, one constant issue has been hampering our trip; the wind! Our tents have blown all over the place. Clothes can’t be dried, because they fall in the sand. Cups and plates knocked over. I was close to asking Jade and Lotus to put rocks in their pockets so they didn’t fly away.
Today, no wind. None. The ocean looks like a pane of glass.
Which is a relief, for sure, but for one thing. Sailing without wind is difficult at best. So, hopefully this afternoon some of that wind returns so we can get in our last bit of training so they can get their certification.
