The Gr. 7 class is reading a novel based on the life of Iqbal Misah in alignment with their Human Rights Unit. Iqbal’s effort to raise worldwide awareness about child labor lead to his death in 1995; he was murdered for bringing light to a shameful issue. The death of this 12 year old activist, however, was not in vain for he inspired another 12 year old to found the humanitarian organization now known as Free The Children. Canadian Craig Kielburger took Iqbal’s cause to another level and continues to make changes for the better by inspiring youth to invest in the power of one.
