What does it mean to be a team? As part of our Who We Are unit, our KG1 learners have been exploring Line of Inquiry 3: Our responsibility towards our shared spaces and friends.
We kicked off our inquiry with mind maps, discussing who is in our classroom community and what makes our days special together. Through collaborative discussions, the children shared how we play together, eat, tidy up, hug, swim, share toys, and learn as a team every day!
During our discussion, we realized that every great team needs an exciting name—and agreed that plain old “KG1” was a bit boring!
💡 Literacy, Numeracy & Digital Inquiry in Action
-
Literacy & Communication Skills (ATL): The children brainstormed creative team names including Little Butterflies, Little Readers, and Little Dinos. They expressed their ideas clearly and practiced active listening as classmates presented their suggestions.
-
Numeracy & Data Analysis: We put our options to a democratic vote! Together, we counted and compared numbers to identify which totals were smaller, and determined the winning team name. With 13 votes, Little Rainbow Birds took the lead!
-
Co-Creating with AI: The children put their descriptive language to work by co-constructing prompts to describe our mascot. We brought their vision to life using AI generation, and the final artwork was met with pure joy!
