As the weeks fly by, our students are now moving forward to Criterion D: Writing.
This week, we reflected on the feedback from our first French assessment. Students considered what they achieved successfully and identified areas for continued improvement. Feedback is an important part of learning because it helps students understand their progress and prepare for their next challenge.
Many students initially felt a little nervous about completing their first assessment. However, their results were as positive as I had hoped, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow. They are beginning to understand that assessments are opportunities to demonstrate their learning, reflect on their progress and discover what they can improve next. Many are already approaching the next assessment with greater confidence and determination.
Grade 7 reviewed key language skills for describing themselves and others, including physical appearance, personality, numbers, adjective agreement and the correct placement of adjectives in French sentences. These foundations will help students communicate their identities with greater accuracy and prepare to create their own personal blogs.
Grade 8 focused on transforming information about different young people and teenagers into their own written products in French. Students are learning how to select relevant details, organise their ideas and use appropriate vocabulary and structures to communicate a clear message.
Both grades have now started preparing for their Criterion D assessments. I am looking forward to seeing the ideas, creativity and individual voices that students bring to their writing.
