It has been an energetic and inquiry-filled week in Science as our students wrapped up the hands-on phase of their summative assessment for Criterion B (Inquiring & Designing) and Criterion C (Processing & Evaluating).
Our young scientists took full ownership of their learning by designing, setting up, and carrying out their own controlled experiments. It was inspiring to watch them systematically follow the scientific method. Students explored a range of physical and chemical concepts through a variety of student-led investigations:
- Pendulum Dynamics: Testing how string length affects the period of a swing.
- Salt Concentration: Investigating how varying salt levels impact buoyancy.
- Coin Spinning: Exploring how friction affects coin spinning.
- Toy Car Motion: Analyzing how mass alters travel distance.
- Crater Denting in Sand: Simulating meteorite impacts to measure how drop height and mass influence crater size and depth.
Next Steps in the Learning Journey
With the testing phase complete and raw data successfully recorded, students are now stepping into the analytical stage of Criterion C. Over the coming lessons, they will organize their data, analyze it and draw scientific conclusions, and reflect on the reliability of their experimental methods.
