Update on students’ learning:
Grade 7 Humanities – students are being guided through how to make clear and purposeful research notes. They have received formative feedback and must use it to show improvements in the upcoming summative.
Grade 8 Humanities – students are learning about development indicators. They have to continue practicing their source analysis skills and have applied it to a source that is not a history source. They will have formative feedback next week. It is important that students continue practicing source analysis independently with sources used in our lessons.
Grade 7 English – students have learnt and explored the conventions of a biography. They are encouraged to use the source provided to read biographies outside of the ones discussed in class or to read biographies from our ABIS library.
Grade 8 English – students designed their own unit which is based on the impact of multimodal texts. They are exploring different modes in texts like cartoons, infographics, and documentary stills.
Grade 9 English – students are working on the analysis of protest poetry. Currently, they have learned how to identify structural features. The difficult part is understanding how those features convey the message of protest within a specific context. They are again writing academic paragraphs (PEEL). They have received feedback. Overall, it is clear that students in grade 9 need practice analytical and academic writing more independently and not just when required in class. They should be practicing the structures they have learned for academic writing across multiple subjects.
