Happy New Year! I hope you had an enjoyable and restful holiday and are looking forward to what 2026 may bring you and your family!
For our first week back we eased in with reviewing some work from before the holiday, including finishing up our last unit of inquiry. I was able to support the students on Sunday; however, I have been off ill for the rest of the week and Ms Viviana has been working with the students.
For literacy, the students have made new words using rhyming letter patterns, practised some handwriting skills and participated in guided reading sessions. The current reading strategy is using prior knowledge to make connections to our reading. Our personal experiences can put our reading into a context that deepens our understanding of what we read. Some students also finished up their recount of a story remembering to use the features of a recount. They also wrote their own personal experiences using their writing journals.
Students finished up their self-assessments and reflections for Where we are in place and time and were able to share information about their home through a presentation.
In maths, the students began the week with identifying consecutive ascending and descending numbers. This week has also been spent in exploring length using centimetres and metres. Students measured items using these units and compared which items were shorter or longer than and making choices about which unit is best for these lengths.
Next week:
