This week we launched our new unit, How the World Works, and took our learning outdoors to notice landforms, rocks, soil, and how water shapes the land, connecting to our central idea that the Earth has many resources and goes through constant change. In literacy, we’re exploring and writing digraphs, starting our writing journeys with drawings and labels, practicing correct letter formation, and continuing to read high-frequency words while rotating through varied literacy stations. In math, students are counting forwards and backwards 0–60 (with a focus on 40 to 0), investigating odd and even numbers, and beginning addition within 10 using manipulatives. To support our inquiry, please help your child bring a photo of a landscape your family has visited (mountain, river, beach, desert, etc.), we’ll use these to spark observation, vocabulary, and research skills in class.
