We’re now well into the school year, and it’s been wonderful to see how our Grade 7 students are settling in. They’re becoming more familiar with the expectations of the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and their self-management skills are improving every day. This is a critical time, as students are now facing their first round of summative assessments in all subjects. We want to make sure they feel prepared and have the best chance for success.

A key part of being prepared is managing the workload at home. We’ve been reinforcing the importance of keeping up with assignments and balancing their time to meet deadlines. This week in Advisory, students also added reflections to their Service as Action (SA) journals and began researching concepts related to their chosen activities. A reminder for them to add any online resources or links they use for their research directly into their journals. Additionally, students have been finalizing their Semester 1 goals, which should be uploaded to ManageBac today.

We’ve also been focusing on our reading habits. D.E.A.R. time (Drop Everything And Read) was a big success this week, with more students bringing a book to class. We encourage everyone to bring a non-textbook book next week for reading, unless they’re using a textbook for revision. If your child doesn’t have a book at home, they can always borrow one from the school library.

The Grade 7 Advisory team is here to support students as they navigate these new expectations. We want to remind them to reach out to us if they face any issues or have concerns about managing their time, meeting deadlines, or balancing their schoolwork with their need for enough sleep to succeed.

We wish all our Grade 7 students the best of luck with their first MYP summative assessments! We hope you all have a relaxing weekend ahead.

Best wishes, G7 Advisory Team (Miss Rachel, Mr Theo & Mr Sid)
