Dear Parents,

A shorter week, but still full of exciting inquiries and lots of progress. We have (mainly) published our letters to our future selves, completed writing assessments, looked at extending sentences, explored figurative writing, pondered how to make mathematical estimates and developed strategies for rounding numbers. Due to the shorter week, we have delayed some of last week’s Literacy goals and the start of the new Where We Are in Place and Time unit until next week. Because of the shorter week, some Literacy goals and the launch of our new Where We Are in Place and Time unit have been postponed until next week.

In this week’s Seesaw you will find…

  • An example of your child extending sentences using the who, what, when, where, why approach
  • Their completed letter to their future selves
  • Some of their rounding skills (there are rounding games in Google Classroom if your child would like additional practice).
  • An update on their self-portraits and the process so far

The photos below are the children placing their sealed goals for the year (don’t worry, they have a copy they can access throughout the year too) into the Grade 6 safe box. The aim will be to open up the goals / letters at the end of the year, to reflect on our progress and think about what goals will help us as we look to Secondary school life.

  • Understanding how to use appositives
  • Starting our ‘I am…’ paragraphs full of figurative language
  • Reading assessments

Maths

  • Math assessment (number)
  • Use mental and written strategies for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals in real-life situations

If you would like to share your own migration story or a story of a family member, we would LOVE for you to come into Grade 6 next week and talk to the students for a few minutes. Please contact either of the G6 teachers if you would be willing to do this. We are very happy to assist you and help you to prepare for this.

Have a great weekend,

The Grade 6 Team
