Oman Week Pictures Here!
What a successful Oman Week 2024-25. Grade 2 went on a total of three field trips this week. On Sunday we went to Sohar Fort and the New Souq. On Tuesday we enjoyed the day at Sangar Park. And last but not least, on Thursday we went to the Fruit and Vegetable Souq. So much information was shared with our students this week. Please ask them all about it. Enjoy all the pictures that were taken and look at them with your child. At school we attended a cooking class with Ms. Zuweina and Ms. Ahlan in the LC3 building. We enjoyed the Oman Week Exhibition in LC3 that was led by Ms. Eiman. We rode camels on Tuesday. In the library we made bookmarks and an Omani female author came to visit our school. During our last activity at school, we went back to the LC3 kitchen and made fruit salads. What a week of excitement!
Next week we will begin Unit 4; Sharing the Planet. We will be looking at habitats, food chains, and the animals that inhabit those areas. We will dive deep into research during this unit. Our Central Idea is ‘Habitats rely on certain factors to survive’. This will be an exciting Unit of Inquiry that I am sure the students will enjoy.
In English we will be looking at informational text by focusing on reading about animals who live in certain habitats. We will continue to practice working on sentence structure and what a good sentence should look like. We will complete an informational writing piece about an animal that the students will choose. We will continue to review nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Our focus in phonics will be learning about vowel teams.
In Math we will continue measurement in length using centimeters, millimeters, and meters. I will introduce mass using kilograms and grams. We will review place value and begin adding numbers over 100. The students will also start practicing subtraction using numbers one through twenty.
