Phonics Exploration: The ‘i’ Sound

This week in phonics, we focused on the letter’ i’—the second vowel we’ve learned. As part of our exploration, we sang the ‘i’ song and investigated different words that start with the letter ‘i.’ When we reached the word “igloo,” the students were amazed by the idea that a house could be made entirely out of ice. To deepen their understanding, we watched a video that explained how igloos are built. When asked if I could live in an igloo in Oman, the students quickly responded, “No! It’s too hot here; your house would melt!”

In addition to our discussions, we practiced saying the ‘i’ sound by creating our own ‘insects’ using pompoms. This hands-on activity supported their phonics learning and allowed them to express their creativity.
