Year-to-Date: 1,694; November 2023: 6.4; Last Week: 28.8
This week was quite busy getting back into the swing of things after the term break with learning and teaching, a PYPX information meeting, and school spirit. My apologies for not including a connection to running and education. Take some time to catch up and please use the following link to find photographs from this week: G6 W10 in Pictures. Please, also, be reminded that 3-Way Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday, November 7-9, 2023. At that time, parents, teachers, and students will discuss progress, rearticulate goals, and answer any queries about the PYP Exhibition.
Home Learning – aka Homework
Thank you for your continued support with home learning 🙂 As a minimum, homework should consist of reading and mathematics over about an hour per day. Students are provided with a task sheet in their homework journal as a starting point with ways to personalize learning included in the daily check-in. When circumstances necessitate please write a note with a signature about what’s happening when this work cannot be completed. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about home learning please do not hesitate to contact us about this.
Literacy Summary
This week, readers began their book clubs whereby they are reading books and analyzing characters and themes within and across books to uncover and explore social issues within them. Additionally, writers worked on expressing an opinion for a topic of choice (e.g., fast food is unhealthy, video games are part of a healthy lifestyle, etc.). In this piece of writing, students needed to state a claim (or their thesis with reasons) wtih evidence. Teachers will score writing through a grade-level rubric before conferring with students. We have had some great learning discussions and it would be great if they could share their learning with you.
Numeracy Summary
This week, mathematicians focused on revising their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division operations or skills for a diagnostic assessment next week. Within the current unit, students worked on solving problems involving unit rates, creating ratio tables, adding and dividing fractions, and graphing these operations on a coordinate plane.
