Dear Parents and Students,
Good afternoon and Happy Thursday.
Congratulations to our students and in-fact our entire learning community for a wonderful, fun filled year of learning, progress, growth and accomplishment. Huge huge thanks to all of you, students and parents, for your amazing support and involvement in learning this year. Also, a huge thanks to all of you who sent in delicious food for the shared lunch yesterday; we had a lovely time, cheerful company and fabulous food. And what a splendid way to conclude the year with the assembly, certificates of recognition, hide and seek game, wonderful water play and a satisfying ‘tidy up’! Once again, hearty thanks to all of you and wishing you a wonderful break, before we start the review of this week.
Students have had another big week this week with year end assignments, completing their language, math and UOI for the year as well as reflecting on the year as a whole, enjoying some fun times in class, receiving certificates, signing each others yearbooks (they look great don’t they), wrapping up and end of year processes. In groups of their choice, students solved some real-life problems associated with measurement (metric units, area and perimeter). This included problems such as finding the cost of re-carpeting the learning space, adding shade cloth to the walkway near LC1, finding the cost of re-tiling the pool floor, and adding a red carpet runner to the staircase in LC1. Yesterday Grade 6 was part of the final secondary assembly where Grade 6 was welcomed into Grade 7 and where two students from G6 were recognised with the Learner Profile award.
This award is presented to students who:
- Work to achieve their personal best
- Uphold ABIS values and traditions
- Demonstrate a commitment to their education
- Demonstrate the Learner Profile attributes
- Are involved in all aspects of school life.
Congratulations to Mais and Mona for their wonderful achievement in receiving this prestigious award.
Today students were also part of the final whole school assembly for staff and students- where we presented a slide show of the year, listened to a band performance as well as teacher farewells from students.
Ms Maryam
We would like to thank Ms Maryam for all of her help this year. She has been an integral part of our class again this year and has developed warm caring supportive relationships with our students. She will be continuing her future adventures in our ECC next year.
All the very best Ms Maryam.
Students leaving us this year include Aala, Rawia and Ahmed Al Baly. It has been a pleasure to have them with us this year and we wish them every success in their future adventures. Thank you for being part of the grade 6 team 🙂
Home learning
Thank you for your continued support of students completing their home learning throughout the year because this really does consolidate what students have been learning in school. Both personally and professionally I recommend that there is a little reading and math over the break because there is some truth to the adage – if you don’t use it…you lose it.
A little reading, writing and math over the summer break is a good investment in your children’s educational future. Please see below for a number of website links to help with this.
Math:
- Prodigy game (Seems like a video game but the questions are based on math curriculum around the world and Reman has an account associated with her class code)
- Hooda math games
- BBC Bitesize math KS2 (I used this in my previous class; the game ‘Guardians’ is similar to Prodigy and it’s based on the UK curriculum)
- Khan Academy Kids (this is an app but the printables are available to download from the site)
- Corbett Math – UK-based site (I really like their idea of 5-a-day math and have different levels of math challenges)
- Kidzone math (Printables available for download)
- IXL Math (most popular site among parents and students for printables and online activities)
Language:
- Raz Kids (ask Reman to show you on her iPad)
- Epic (ask Reman to show you on her iPad)
- Nessy (ask Reman to show you on her iPad)

Please also make sure you watch the great little video montage of the year in review, in this folder.
Thank you Grade 6 for an awesome year.
Once again, a huge thank you for your support this year as we work together to help the children grow and progress and be the best they can be. It has been a pleasure being the grade 6 teacher this year. For those of you returning next year, we look forward to seeing you again after the break. For those of you moving on to other amazing adventures, we wish you all the very best.
Sincere regards,
Your partners in learning.
