Dear Parents and Students,
I hope these few words find you well. It is hard to believe but yes another busy week has come and gone.
Please see below and linked, a review of the week.

School Photos
This week we had our school photos. It was great to see everyone looking so good for these, what a handsome bunch. Information about School photo prints will come out in the near future. Great memories to keep for sure.
Homework
Today we completed our homework set for the last two weeks with positive results especially in the area of gaining insight into students’ self management and independence skills as well as their research skills. Thank you for checking and signing this because this shows the importance of completing activities at home to consolidate learning. This also gives you an insight into your children’s lives as students.
Reading and writing
During this week learners have continued to work on developing reading and writing skills. This week, after sharing a sketch note article on English Bulldogs, students have worked on writing their own information report on a topic of their choice. Please do talk with them about this because they have been doing a great job.
Mathematics
This week in Math, students continued to practise their basic facts as well as work in their collaborative working groups to complete a number of problem solving learning engagements. These were designed to have them work together to articulate their reasoning and justify their rationale. Again, please do talk with them about this. You may be pleasantly surprised at the depth of understanding they are able to articulate in their explanation of how they answered these problems. There are pictures of this process and samples of the problems in our week 8 review in pictures this week.
Integrated UOI
This week we have continued our unit with the central idea that “Flight Inspires Scientific Innovation”. Students worked on defining key terms and phrases to do with the subject as well as researching the four forces of flight. These are; Weight, Lift, Drag and Thrust. We made a balloon race along a string to demonstrate some of these forces and experimented to see how many ping pong balls we could suspend in an air stream using a leaf blower. Good fun, hands on minds on science. This is quite a technical unit with lots of science to understand however students are doing very well in developing their scientific understandings of how flying works. Please do talk with them about what they are doing in class and what they are learning.
