Dear Parents and Students,
Another successful week of learning has come and gone. Students are beginning to really settle into routines and we are finding out more and more about each other as we work through our assessments and first unit of Inquiry ‘Who We Are.’ It was an exciting week; we began our swimming programme, students received new iPads, ASA signups went live and students completed important WIDA assessments.
This week we started with a speaking engagement about our weekend and used new WOW words to describe the day. In G6, we will focus on improving our speaking skills, looking explicitly at one aspect at a time. We caught up on our WIDA assessments this week with the Learning Support Team – 1:1 speaking, Listening & Writing. Next week, learners will complete their Reading assessment.
We tuned in to our math inquiry on whole numbers up to billions and used hands-on visuals such as Diene blocks, counters and place value mats to explore the base-10 number system. We did a library scanning books to spot the differences and similarities between fiction and nonfiction.
This week, as part of our UOI into Who We Are, students worked to complete their self portrait as well as their portfolio cover pages.

With week four coming up next week, we will be completing this unit of study shortly so please watch this space for information.
Coming soon… How The World Works!!! (Week 6)
Reminders:
Please remember your…
- Hat, Water bottle, Ipad charged, headphone, PE Kit, learning tools 🙂
- About feeling unwell; If a student is at school and feels unwell, the school will check temperatures and their general state of being before calling home to ask that they be collected and either taken home to rest or to be checked by a health professional. If a student is unwell, please let the school know and take the necessary time to recuperate and get well. There is no expectation that you attend classes via remote or that you complete school work at home if you are unwell. If you are on the verge of coming back to school or are really bored however, then please remember that readers are leaders and that Mathematics is all around us 🙂 Some time spent on basic facts or reading each day may be appropriate. Our health is number one priority so we need to look after ourselves to be sure.
Thank you
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincere regards,
Your partners in Learning
Sri, Glen and Ms Maryam
