Homework
This week for homework, we continued with our basic facts, reading, codebreaking and geography quiz as well as our spelling work.
Reading, Writing and Inquiry
Central Idea:
Human migration is a response to challenges, risks and opportunities.
Lines of Inquiry:
- Reasons why people migrate
- Migration patterns
- The effects of migration on communities and individuals
This week everyday we had 30 minutes to read. This is very useful. Before I could say most of Grade six did not read as much as we should. Because of online learning, it’s still easy to not do what you’re supposed to. With your cameras off, you can basically do anything. However grade 6 is very good at taking responsibility for their own learning and is doing really well with this. This week for writing, After Lunch we have personal writing and the time we are given is 20 minutes to write a story about something that happened in your life so we do a recount about what happened, around 1:40/1340. We head back to class or the meet we would do some sharing 2 boys and 2 girls. We also get time to read a hard copy book because reading a hardcopy is very different to reading a virtual book. In Inquiry we are learning about Migration and learning and getting information about famous immigrants to write a Biography about them. This week we continued our learning about human migration and a famous immigrant. My partner and I are finding out about Albert Einstein. Did you know he was an immigrant? Also, his History teacher really didn’t like him though his math teacher thought he was a genius.
Mathematics
This week for math online, as we do in class, we completed our math maintenance and also worked on problems of measurement, time and angles. Some of our problems had to do with working out different angles and using a protractor which was interesting. We also always had either Mr Nicholson or Miss Maryam or Miss Khadija in one of the break out rooms to help us if we needed it. Some students need help to understand the concepts in English so they are able to translate them into Arabic for them too which is great, that way they are validating what they know in Arabic as well as growing their understanding in English.
Visual Art
This week we continue to work on our creative art as a form of self expression. Please see our photo page for examples of student work in this area.
PSPE
This week we have been following along and copying an online instructor doing a workout at the same time as answering questions about the exercises we were doing. We enjoyed this.
Next week:
Next week we will be in home learning mode online. I will send our usual Sunday morning email about this however as a reminder, please use our normal, standard link to attend our homeroom classes online.
