Dear Parents and Students,

Homework
This week for homework (kind of funny because we are all working at home online during the day), we continued with our basic facts and reading work as well as our codebreaking challenges, geography quiz and our spelling work.
Reading, Writing and Inquiry
Central Idea:
Human migration is a response to challenges, risks and opportunities.
Lines of Inquiry:
- Reasons why people migrate
- Migration patterns
- The effects of migration on communities and individuals
This week everyday we had 30 minutes to read. This is very useful. Before I could say most of Grade six did not read as much as we should. Because of online learning, it’s still easy to not do what you’re supposed to. With your camera off you can basically do whatever. This week for writing, we did personal writing. I think this is a good thing because it builds confidence, when you stand in front of the class. The goal is to write more than 12 lines each day. We do personal writing after lunch. Which gives our brains more things to write about. Most of the time we don’t know what to write about, but this week after a sample piece about a ‘terrible horrible bad day’ we wrote about our own very bad day. This bad day could be real or made up. Our Unit of Inquiry is migration. This week we started to learn about human migration. I was inquiring into the Syrian civil war. But this week we had to look up a famous immigrant. My partner and I are finding out about Albert Einstein. Did you know he was an immigrant?
Mathematics
This week for math online, as we do in class we completed our math maintenance and also worked on problems of measurement, time and angles. Some of our problems had to do with working out different time zones and adding or subtracting time.
Visual Art
This week we continue to work on our creative art as a form of self expression. Please see our photo page for examples of student work in this area.
PSPE
This week we have been following along and copying an online instructor doing a workout at the same time as answering questions about the exercises we were doing. We enjoyed this.
Next week:
Next week we will be in home learning mode online. I will send our usual Sunday morning email about this however as a reminder, please use our normal, standard link to attend our homeroom classes online.
A big Thank you to Abby for helping to put our broadcaster together this week.
Excellent work Abby.
Wishing you a great weekend ahead.
As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Your partners in learning.
