Dear Students and Parents,
What a great week it has been. Our first week back at school for the year.
It was a real pleasure working with the Grade 6 students this week. We did have a few issues connecting with technology at times however the students were great, handled this well and took this in their stride. This past week was a great week of learning engagements designed to help us get to know each other and re establish positive learning routines. Among other things, this week saw students thinking critically about setting up our essential agreements as a class and looking at how we as a grade 6 learning community will strive to make the class a positive, inclusive, supportive learning environment.
This week our learners also ‘Tuned’ into our first Unit Of Inquiry about ‘Who We Are’ as well as solving a few riddles, having a few laughs, creating informational displays about themselves setting positive reading routines, beginning a piece of procedural writing and inquiring into our wonderful host country during social studies. Students have joined in their first specialist subjects this week and have been introduced to the library, Music and PSPE getting to know their teachers and what they will be doing in these classes this year. For more information about what learning took place and what we did this week. Please ask your children to explain, they are a great source of knowledge and talking about what they have done only helps to solidify their learning. Please see the images below as a starting point for some interesting conversations as you talk with them about all they have done this week. I am sure they will be very happy to share the details with you.

As you know, next week students will be able to attend school in person once again which is great news. More great news is that I am now in Sohar. My family and I are currently in quarantine at home here and I look forward to heading to school to be a part of our learning community mask to mask to continue working with our great Grade 6 class as soon as this period is over. Until I am able to attend in person, lessons will be held virtually with our students on campus in person in their class with the support of our Classroom Assistants and Ms Cora while I am also attending online. ABIS does take health and safety protocols around Covid19 very seriously and has in place strict procedures and processes around this which are designed to allow us all to be happy, healthy and learning together.
Reminders: Things to bring to school.
As we will have breaks outdoors next week, all students will need to bring hats (to leave at school. ‘No hat, no play’) and water bottles so they can play outside. Grade 6 are emergent leaders in our school and role model this positive behaviour for our younger learners.
Please also bring a pair of headphones to school to use with your Ipad. These can be either wireless/ bluetooth or the cable kind, as long as they work with your Ipad.
Ipad, please make sure this is charged and that you bring your charger as well.
Mask. Having a spare mask is also a good idea as our expectation is masks on, all students, all the time. This is for everyone even if vaccinated. One exception is when outside eating in our specific designated space.
Lunch & Snack 🙂
*We have tissues & hand sanitiser at school for everyone at school
PSPE: Mr Andy & Rob
All students should wear their PE kit to school on the days that they have PE lessons. This must include appropriate sports shoes. They will not have access to changing facilities. They should also bring a FULL water bottle and a hat to all lessons. For safety reasons, students will not be able to participate without these items and appropriate attire.
Thank you
We look forward to welcoming you back on campus next week and to continuing to learn and grow together.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincere regards,
Your partner in Learning
Mr Nicholson
