Students are 7 weeks into planning their Personal Projects. During each week of our learning from home, students have had an assignment. Each assignment was a step toward reaching their goal, completing their Personal Project. We have continued to hold our weekly online meetings which will continue each week as we continue learning and working form home. Work from now until the May 28 deadline of the draft of parts A and B will be quite independent. Each student has their own set of work to do. They should be using their planning device, photographing important parts of their work, using their journal in Managebac as they work. And of course I want to have a picture every week of students working to share here.

Here is a list of what they have done so far:

  • Clarified their exact product
  • Connected their project to a particular Global Context
  • Identified and evaluated a small number of internet resources to help them build their background knowledge or to help them complete their product successfully.
  • Created a rubric they can use to evaluate their product
  • Decided on an organizational method to help them complete their product and their written report on time.
  • Contacted their Personal Project supervisor to say hello and to briefly tell them about their product and it’s Global Context.

Student focus now should be on making progress on their product (due next school year) and preparing to write their report (draft of parts A and B are due on 28 May). As always, information for each week will be in our class slideshow. Every grade 9 student will work independently on a their projects from now on. It will continue to check in for our weekly meetings. They have been assigned to a faculty member as a supervisor who should be able to see evidence of their work and regular process journal entries in Managebac.

I look forward to seeing students in our weekly meetings and I will continue to give feedback when asked and on work turned in to me that was not done on time.
