Today grade 10’s are sitting their first mock examination Mathematics paper. All students are currently studying the more rigorous ‘Extended’ course which allows them to get grades up to A*. The Extended examination has two papers, a short answer paper, Paper 2, which predominantly looks at key number skills with aspects of algebra, geometry and measures and data handling. Paper 4, which the students will sit next week, is a 150 minute examination which questions deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Students are allowed to use calculators in both examinations. I hope that the students take this opportunity to prove their ability and attain at least a C, which will be a good omen for their final examinations!
