Fifteen ABIS students participated in the Society of Petroleum Engineer’s Energy4me program. It was the first time that this program was brought to Oman by the Oman Oil Company Exploitation and Production (OOCEP). One hundred and fifty students from around Oman were gathered at Sundus Rotana Muscat to conduct experiments on the process of extracting oil.

In an activity, students are exploring the behavior of sound waves. Seismic is a technology that bounces sound waves off rock formations deep below the surface of the earth to provide geologists and geophysicists with a picture of the subsurface which often reveal potential, oil fields.

Another activity, called core sampling, is one of the ways that explorers determine the geologic formation of rocks and sediments when exploring oil and gas.

In the afternoon, students headed to the new Oman Exhibition and Convention Center to attend the 11th Oman’s Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference. They were able to see actual machineries and equipment used in oil and gas extraction.
