Many months ago, the G8 Humanities students had an opportunity to build Viking ships! Using the correct width and length ratio, many different ships were built, showing the individuality of the builders. Finally, this week, the boats were tested in the pool at school. All ships passed the first test, floating for more than 10 seconds. Most also passed the second test, holding (while floating) a kg of weight or cargo. The experiment demonstrated how the Vikings, while respecting subtle differences and preferences in how their craft looked, were able to successfully raid European coastal settlements with their sturdy boats and bring back heavy cargo, so long as they were built according to the 1:4 ratio.http://abisoman.com/broadcaster/wp-content/uploads/sites/17/2018/03/img_1655.mov
