We have been busy preparing for the trial implementation of the MYP next school year. While the adminstration is engrossed gathering documentation and filling in the MYP candidacy papers, our teachers have been actively engaged in the exploration of the MYP. Some collaborative meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays have been set aside to understand the depth and breadth of the MYP framework and how it prepares students for the opportunities and challenges of the Diploma Programme and beyond.

In February, four of our teachers started their month-long MYP subject – specific online training in sciences, design and the arts. Depending on their previous exposure to the IB and specifically to the MYP, our teachers are taking either the Implementing the MYP Curriculum Category 1 workshop or Delivering the MYP Curriculum Category 2 workshop. Both courses look at developing collaboration and reflection on effective teaching, learning and assessment strategies; as well as creating relevant, innovative and challenging student-centered environments.

The next batch of training begins on the 14th of March for math, sciences and language and literature. The ABIS teaching staff have indeed profoundly embraced and are modeling the qualities of life-long learning. As Brian Tracy aptly put it, “Those people who develop the ability to continuously acquire new and better forms of knowledge that they can apply to their work and to their lives will be the movers and shakers in our society for the indefinite future.”
