On 12 to 14 February, SCOOLEX 2018, Oman’s largest gathering of private education professionals was held at the new Oman Convention and Exhibition Center in Muscat.  Organised by the Ministry of Education General Directorate of Private Schools, the event brought together representatives from the private education sector around this year’s theme of: “The private school’s journey to excellence”. Oman’s Minister of Education opened the event where over 500 private schools from within Oman was represented along with private school education providers from across the GCC, education investors, ministry officials, parents and students.

In Mr. Neil Tomalin’s presentation entitled  “Transforming learning for this century. How can this be achieved here in Oman?,” he explored different strategies and approaches for adapting and improving teaching and learning in Oman. By focusing on his experiences as head of Al Batinah International School, he discussed ideas for change that were relevant to parents, teachers and principals alike.

While Ms. Ann Gaillard talked about developing skills that could positively influence and support a student’s approach to life-long learning. Her workshop focused on the importance of 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, self-management, research and thinking, and how these skills could be developed within the curriculum so that students become self-regulated learners.
