We just did an activity in Grade 9 English where students were asked to write a dialogue between a mother and a son about spending time in the virtual world. When they performed the dialogues, we discovered that they all ended up creating an argument. This has led to our next investigation into how to construct arguments in essays and for speeches.
For this investigation, we are staying with the topic of online media, and how it affects young people, as this is very relevant for our students today. We will be reading a variety of articles, and then practice the language of constructing arguments, as well as the practice of writing speeches. I am looking forward to some fascinating perspectives!
