It has been an action-packed and energising week in Grade 6!

This week, students were introduced to ABIStan, a simulation designed to deepen their understanding of migration, global cooperation and equity. They were divided into six fictional nations and given information about each country. Students worked together to identify their nation’s opportunities, risks and challenges. They also renamed their countries, designed flags, created anthems, selected national animals and established national holidays.

As the week progressed, representatives from each nation gathered for the ABIStan United Nations Conference. Students presented their countries’ opportunities, risks and challenges before beginning to form alliances with other nations. They developed proposals and voted on whether each motion should pass. This led to rich discussions about privilege, the value of different passports and whether everyone has equal freedom and opportunity to move around the world. It was wonderful to see students listen to different perspectives, negotiate and build bridges between their nations.

We came together one final time to reflect on the experience and conclude our migration unit. Please check Seesaw to read your child’s reflection on their experience in ABIStan.

In Literacy, students continued developing their informative texts and focused on editing and revising their work to improve clarity, organisation and detail.

In Maths, students continued building their understanding of data and different types of graphs. They practised analysing information, interpreting what the data shows and drawing conclusions. We will continue developing these skills when we return after the break.
