It’s been another action packed week in Grade 6!
In Literacy, we began to grow our understanding of fiction and nonfiction text and build an understanding of informational texts and their features. We explored some informational texts to help identify their features. As we begin the process to write our own informational texts. We also focused on the concept of comparing and contrasting texts by identifying similarities and differences between cultures and migration journeys.
In UOI this week we continued to build our research skills by beginning to sort out information that we had gathered. We sorted our information into categories of push/pull factors, opportunities, risk and challenges. Next, we chose which two or three teachers’ migration journeys to compare by identifying similarities and differences. We will then use this information to start drafting our first non-fiction text.
In Maths, we began reviewing multiplication skills. We worked through one-digit by two-digits to three-digits by four-digits. We encourage review multiplication facts for any students who may have forgotten them. We are also slowly beginning our maths unit into graphs. We’re beginning to look at different types of graphs and their purpose.
