In Grade 7, students have started developing ideas for their final artwork through a series of sketches. Using the statement, “Innovation can change the form of our natural and human landscapes,” students are exploring ways to transform a room into a surrealist space. They will create three different sketches, combining one-point perspective with unusual or dreamlike elements. Students are encouraged to experiment with the size, placement, and combination of objects to create unexpected results. Their strongest sketch will be selected for further development into their final artwork.
This week, Grade 8 students were introduced to different methods for transforming their selected photographs into more creative final ideas. Through compositional explorations, students are experimenting with different ways to organize visual elements within their artwork. They are also considering how their use of elements of art, principles of design, and compositional techniques can communicate a creative idea. With their compositions finalized, students will select their strongest idea and begin their drawing next week.
Grade 10 students have spent the week developing their ideas through a series of annotated thumbnail sketches. They are exploring how personal memories can be communicated through imagery, composition, and artistic approach. Next week, students will receive personalized feedback on their ideas before beginning the art making process, using charcoal.
