Dear families,

It has certainly been an eventful week in The Cats! We have had quite a few poorly little ones at school this week, and I have been battling a bug myself too! Despite this, we have tried our best to keep our learning fun, engaging and full of smiles. We have enjoyed lots of hands-on activities, creative learning and opportunities to talk, explore and learn together. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope everyone who has been unwell has a chance to rest and recover over the weekend.

Mathematics

This week, we have been learning about counting on as a strategy for addition. We used Unifix cubes and practical activities to help us understand how we can start with a number and count on to find the total. We also discussed how counting on is just one strategy we can use when solving addition problems.

English

In English, we have been focusing on reading strategies and thinking about what makes a good reader. We have been practising using our sounds and looking carefully at words when reading. We are also continuing to develop our confidence in speaking, listening and sharing our ideas with others.

Unit of Inquiry

As part of our Who We Are unit, we have been exploring culture and identity. We talked about the different cultures represented in our classroom and how our traditions, food, celebrations, languages and experiences can help make us who we are.

We also celebrated Dot Day! The students enjoyed creating artwork using dots and exploring how something as simple as a dot can become a wonderful piece of art.

Little Reminders:

  • Sunday 20th is the due date for the autobiography shoebox, thank you to the students that have already brought in their boxes.
  • Please continue to encourage your child to read at home every day, even for just 10–15 minutes. Talking about the story, asking questions and encouraging your child to explain their thinking are all wonderful ways to support their language and reading development.
  • Oct 13th = Parent Coffee Morning
  • Oct 14th = ASA Round 1 Complete
  • Oct 18-22 = School Closed
  • Oct 29th = Progress Reports

Thank you for your continued support and for being part of our learning journey!
