Dear Secondary families,

As we reach the end of our fourth week of the school year, students are now well established in their routines and the initial period of settling in is giving way to the real business of learning. Walking through Secondary classrooms, it has been wonderful to see students increasingly engaged in discussion, inquiry, collaboration and challenge.

One of the great strengths of an IB education is that learning is about much more than simply acquiring knowledge or achieving a particular grade. We want our students to ask questions, think critically, communicate their ideas, take appropriate risks and become increasingly independent learners. We also want them to recognise that genuine learning will not always feel easy. Being challenged, making mistakes, responding to feedback and trying again are all important parts of making progress.

An equally important part of this process is reflection. As students begin to receive feedback and complete their first assessments of the year, we encourage them not simply to focus on the result, but to consider what that result tells them about their learning. What am I doing well? What could I improve? What will I do differently next time? These are powerful questions that help students take greater ownership of their progress.

This connects closely with the goal-setting taking place through our Advisory programme. By setting meaningful goals, regularly reflecting on their progress and making adjustments along the way, students begin to understand that improvement is something they can actively influence.

As we move further into the term, I encourage all of our students to embrace challenge, learn from feedback and take responsibility for their own progress. In doing so, they continue to live our school values: Challenge Yourself, Involve Yourself, Be Your Best.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents who were able to attend the coffee morning and workshop hosted by our School Counsellors. The feedback was very positive and we look forward to hosting more in the future.

Have a lovely weekend.
