This has been a great first week in art. Students in grades 7, 8, and 10 are getting to know each other and me. Everyone has received their sketchbooks, and we have dedicated the first page to a layout about ourselves. Not only does this help me get to know students, but it is also students’ first opportunity to show off their creative style. Students have also joined their class Google Classroom sites and are becoming familiar with the posted class resources.
In grade 7, we have already jumped into learning about linear perspective – the system of lines and points that allows us to draw three-dimensional objects.
In grade 8, students have been introduced to the Elements of Art – line, colour, shape, space, value, texture, and form. This foundational understanding will be essential as the unit progresses.
Students in grade 10 have dedicated their time to their ‘A Day in the Life of…’ sketchbook page, where they visually capture their daily routine or their ‘perfect day’ using a layout similar to that of a comic or graphic novel.
