A busy week as many of the G6 students were taking part in the Ministry assigned exams. Reflecting on some of the emotions and anxiety faced by some of these students during the week, I think it is very important going forwards that we obviously encourage students to do their best, but also help to put these tests into perspective too.
This Week…
The students have started work on basic algebra in Mathematics, and are looking at how a letter or symbol can represent a value. This is exciting and a new concept for most of the students. We have also been looking at how to use our bodies and voices to help us deliver dramatic and exciting Ted Talks. The students have been busy practising and learning different techniques to memorise their speeches and to be ready to perform in front of the other G6 students on Monday 25th May. This is a really big moment for them to get onto a stage on their own and communicate their message with passion. This will help them with their confidence and self-belief moving forwards!
Lots of school still to go…
There is still nearly 10% of the school year left, so please make sure that your child attends each session and maximises every learning opportunity over the next few weeks. We have lots of key learning goals and projects that will continue right up until June 17th. Our expectation and hope is that children will attend all these sessions.
Next Week…
A short, but important week, which will be dominated by the Ted Talks on Monday 25th May, as well as a continuation of our book clubs, our algebra unit and specialist lessons. As well as some ongoing preparation for the Grade 6 Graduation on the 2nd June.
Helping your Child
Perhaps consider offering to be an audience for your child and their Ted Talk over the weekend. Below are some of the areas you can consider with your child as they practice.
Have a great weekend,
The Grade 6 Team
