Dear Robloxian Parents,
This week has been another very busy and exciting week in Grade 2!
For our Unit of Inquiry, we continued exploring sound and also began investigating shadows. This week, the students focused on creating and exploring shadows. They loved experimenting with different ways to make shadows using their hands, bodies, and objects around the classroom. We discussed how shadows are formed and what happens when light is blocked. The students also explored how shadows can change size and shape depending on where the light source is placed. There were lots of wonderful conversations, predictions, and discoveries as they tested different ideas together.
Throughout the week, we continued making connections to vibrations, discussing how larger vibrations can create louder sounds.
Next week, we will conclude this unit with the students’ project presentations. This will be the final presentation opportunity of the year and is a wonderful chance for students to demonstrate how much they have grown in their confidence and presentation skills throughout the year. If your child has not yet brought in their home project, it is important that they bring it on Sunday.
In Maths, we concluded our unit on 3D shapes. Students described shapes using their properties, including faces, edges, and vertices. They identified real-life objects and matched them to their 3D shape counterparts, matched nets to their solid shapes, and built their own 3D shapes using straws and connectors. Students then uploaded photos to Seesaw and explained the properties of the shapes they created. This week, the students also completed their Maths assessments.
We have now begun exploring symmetry. Students learned that symmetry means one side of a shape or object is an exact mirror image of the other side. They completed activities where they drew the missing symmetrical half of shapes and pictures. Next week we will explore tessellations, learning that tessellations are repeating patterns of shapes that fit together perfectly with no gaps or overlaps, just like puzzle pieces. We will continue exploring symmetry and tessellations next week.
ABIS will be closed from Tuesday, 26 May, and school will resume on Sunday, 31 May.
Have a wonderful weekend ✨
Cami
