This week, we explored the work of Eric Carle, one of our favourite author-illustrators. The students watched a short video showing how Eric Carle used painted tissue paper and collage techniques to create the colourful characters and illustrations in his stories. We discussed how authors and illustrators can use art to help tell stories and share ideas creatively.

We also read some of Eric Carle’s stories, including The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, and talked about how our pictures do not always have to be realistic. The students enjoyed discussing how artists can use their imagination and creativity to make unique and colourful artworks.

After exploring his artwork, the students had the opportunity to create their own pictures inspired by Eric Carle’s style. They used drawing, cutting, and sticking skills to design their own collages using different colours and pieces of paper. The children enjoyed expressing their creativity and were very proud of the unique artworks they created.
