Dear Secondary Families,

One of the strengths of the MYP is the emphasis placed on Service as Action, providing students with meaningful opportunities to apply their learning in real-world contexts while making a positive contribution to the community. This is an important part of developing internationally minded learners, encouraging students to take initiative, act with empathy, and understand their responsibility to others.

These experiences also provide a strong foundation for the Diploma Programme, where students continue this journey through Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). By the time students reach the DP, they are already familiar with planning, reflecting on, and taking ownership of service experiences, allowing them to engage more confidently and meaningfully in CAS projects.

This week, we were particularly pleased to see this brought to life through the work of one of our students, who was recently featured on Oman Radio to discuss the projects he has been leading. His work reflects two key areas: an environmental initiative focused on reducing food waste in Oman, and the development of technical skills in 3D printing. Building on these experiences, he also took the initiative to design and produce fidget tools to support students within our SHINE programme. The quality and impact of this work have been extremely positive, even leading to wider interest across the school community. This is an excellent example of how Service as Action enables students to demonstrate initiative, creativity, and a strong sense of responsibility, while applying their learning in authentic and meaningful ways.

This week has also marked an important point in the academic year, with our Grade 10 students completing their MYP eAssessments, our Grade 12 students sitting their final Diploma Programme examinations, and our Grade 11 students beginning their end-of-year Examinations. We are very proud of the way students across all year groups have prepared for this period, demonstrating focus, resilience, and maturity. Examinations play an important role in allowing students to consolidate their learning, apply their knowledge independently, and demonstrate their understanding in a formal setting. We wish all students every success as they continue through this important stage of the academic year.

Next week, we will hold our next Parent Coffee Morning on Tuesday, combined with the DP Art Exhibition. We hope that many parents will be able to join us for this opportunity to connect as a community and celebrate student creativity.

Have a lovely weekend,

Andy Cooper
