Dear Robloxian Parents,
This week in our UOI, we continued exploring sound and how it is made. We discovered that sound is created through vibrations, and the students absolutely loved taking part in different hands-on investigations. One of our favourite activities was the dancing rice experiment, where we observed rice moving from the vibrations and sound waves. We also explored sound as the students tested out their string telephones to communicate with a partner and see how sound can travel. Throughout the week, we discussed how sound helps us experience and understand the world around us.
In Maths, we began our new unit on 3D shapes with a fun provocation where the kids had to guess the shape, then a pre-assessment so I could better understand what the students already know and what we still need to work on together. We explored different 3D shapes by touching, observing, and describing them using words such as faces, edges, and vertices.
For Literacy, we continued building our phonics knowledge and explored new prefixes and suffixes. During guided reading, we focused on identifying the beginning, middle, and end of stories, as well as discussing characters and settings. The students also learned how to record investigations using a simple version of the scientific method.
The students were also very excited to visit the Book Fair this week and loved exploring all the different books. Many students were very happy to add new books to their home libraries 📚✨
Next week:
