Weekly Photos Here!!!
This week during our Unit of Inquiry students created posters of either light or sound real world examples. They are proudly displayed outside of our classroom. Students created a sound compilation with a group and Ms. Fatma recorded them, so they have been shared in the weekly photo folder. I heard a wadi, a farm, a cuckoo clock, and instruments. Students thoroughly enjoyed working on these with their groups. Next week we will continue working on light and sound. Students will begin scientific observations of classroom projects. One example is the question, what will happen to this pencil when I put it in a glass of water. It will look like the pencil is bending, but is it? Another project we will be using flashlights while another uses strings and hangers. It will be a week full of scientific experiments and observations. HOME PROJECT DIRECTIONS SENT TO SEESAW.
In English this week we have continued reviewing and practicing capitalization, punctuation, verb tense, and contractions. We do this in our daily language lesson everyday. Consistency with the students is what is most important when learning a new language and all the rules they include. These materials will go home with the students and I think it would be great that they review these materials before entering the third grade. This week in phonics our focus has been on silent e words and we will continue this next week. Next week we will also be actively looking at the glued sound -ive and how it is an exception to the silent e rule. The glued sound -ive does not follow the rule and the vowel is not long, however the silent e is still silent. Examples of this glued sound are olive, active, and massive. In writing we will be looking at procedural writing and we will be writing step by step instructions on how we complete our simple classroom experiments.
In maths this week we have been focusing on three dimensional shapes and we will continue this into next week. Students need to know how many faces, vertices and edges our 3D shapes have. These shapes include cube, sphere, cylinder, pyramid, cone, and rectangular prism. We are looking at if a 3D shape can roll, stack or slide. Students will need to identify these shapes with their names. Please ask your child about these shapes and what they have learned. At the end of next week the students will complete an assessment regarding this information.
